Superbrown International is a shared, progressive test program for the Brown Swiss. It is made up of four independent AI companies and Breeding Associations : the Breeding Association of Südtirol and Trient (Braunviehzuchtverband Südtirol und Trient), the Breeding Association and AI company of Baden Württemberg in Germany (Rinderunion Baden Württemberg), the first Swiss privately owned AI company Select Star SA, and the Austrian Breeding Association of Steiermark (Braunviehzuchtverband Steiermark) together with the AI company Gleisdorf (KB-Station Gleisdorf).
Presented below are the 6 main goals that determined the creation of this breeding program with no borders in 1996.
- Widening of the offer to each member.
- Data from different countries garantee reliable breeding values and therefore a better progress in breeding.
- Attractive semen offer for each partner through a reciprocal exchange.
- Better level of knowledge of each partner's genetics.
- Availability of a maximum possible diversity of families through agreements for sires purchases and targeted coupling.
- Reciprocal complementarity of relationship and Know-How.
80 to 90 young sires are tested every year by all the members of Superbrown International. Each year, about 40% of these sires achieve a testprogram in at least one of the partner countries. In order not to loose any test capacity, the number of test-AIs are reduced in each country. This promising, shared testprogram already allowed to produce two excellent proven sires : Ossido and Colombo.
Thanks to the shared info-gate Superbrown International, the world wide interested breeders will be provided with news and trends from the Brown Swiss community.
